Session XXXVII Summary:
With Kalarel defeated and the rift closed, the party makes quick work of the Imp, the only remaining foe.
The area is looted, and the group finds hundreds of gold coins, a magic dagger, Kalarel's magic horned helm, and the wight's magic cloak.
Coltaine keeps the helm, since he keeps all the magic items. Sorrow takes the cloak, and Win'tyr takes the dagger -- only because Coltaine already has a magic weapon and a magic neck slot item.
The group maps out the keep upon Coltaine's request to complete Rekoj's mission, then treks back to Winterhaven. On the way, Coltaine recruits Sorrow, Morgan, and Rhekd as new members of the Order of the Drogans.
In Winterhaven, the Drogans are greeted by a crowd headed by Lord Padraig. Coltaine explains that Kalarel has been defeated. Lord Padraig says that Winterhaven is forever in their debt.
Rekoj's arsenal of weapons is donated to the dwarven blacksmith, who turns out to be Rhekd's cousin. Coltaine breaks the news about Rekoj's death, and the dwarf blames himself for not pushing dwarven armor on him enough.
The Drogans make funeral arrangements for Autumn and Rekoj.
On the morrow, the townsfolk gather in the graveyard for the double funeral. When the time comes for anyone to step forward and speak about the dead, Coltaine says, "Rekoj was good people." For Autumn, he explains how she turned out to be the rogue with a heart of gold, sacrificing herself to save Zook.
Win'tyr says, for Rekoj, "Good night, sweet prince."
As the ceremonies are about to conclude, a figure emerges from the crowd to speak -- an older gentleman; a short, roundish man wearing curious clothing, a black hat, and a monocle. Coltaine recognizes him as none other than Jacques Orville Kelly Erebit the Red. He clears his throat, adjusts his hat, fixes his monocle, smoothes out his vest, clears his throat again, cracks his knuckles, opens his vest, reaches in, and pulls out a few sheets of parchment. He holds them at arm's length, squints, holds them closer, scrutinizes the writing, and shuffles through the pages until he finds one he seems content with.
He inhales deeply and says, "Asparagus."
He puts the papers back in his vest, steps away, and falls into Rekoj's open grave.
The ceremony concludes, and as the crowd disperses, Win'tyr and Coltaine head off to have a little conversation about Ninaran -- what transpires between them will be revealed next session.
A grand feast is held in honor of the Drogans. Songs are sung in honor of the Drogans, and Lord Padraig gives a speech about their heroism.
Just about every town member personally thanks the Drogans.
After the feast, the Drogans bring some food and leave it on Rekoj's grave.
The session ends on the morrow, with the Drogans setting off to Rhekd's church. As they march off into the sunset, we pan over to the graveyard in Winterhaven, to a tombstone that stands over a fresh grave, over which has been lain a bounty of food.
The fresh earth stirs. There's a flash of lightning, and a fist erupts from the grave and grabs a chicken leg.
