Session XXIII Summary:

With Dave absent, special guest-star Patrick plays the part of Rekoj.

XP is awarded for surviving the skeleton ambush, then the Drogans rest. Apparently unable to focus on a single goal, as they've shifted from chasing goblins to investigating crypts to spelunking, the adventurers decide to head back to the caves.

Inside the caves, the group navigates to a set of bronze double doors upon which the following message has been scratched: "stay out. Really."

The Drogans immediately decide to enter.

Inside is a cave filled with a pool of water with an island at its center. On this little island, bones, spilled coins and other small objects are visible among a carpet of fungus.

Ripples stir the water, so Coltaine tosses in a rock. The dank water disgorges a blob of slime that extrudes long pseudopods ending in appendages of dripping goo.

The Drogans swim over to the island and attack the slime, once again wasting no time determining if it has hostile intentions.

Bubbles erupt form within the slime and emit a horrid stench.

Two pseudopods beat Autumn down to 5 HP, leaving an acidic residue that burns her into unconsciousness on round 4. The rogue begins to drown.

The three-way race is on: what will kill Autumn first? Failing her death saves? The ongoing acid damage? Drowning?

The slime sends out pseudopods that bash Rekoj down to 22/52 HP.

On round 5, Rekoj and Coltaine agree on a tactical retreat. They pull Autumn out of the water and head for the exit.

Autumn fails her 2nd death save.

Coltaine wipes the acid off of Autumn, then drags her out of the room.

The slime slaps Zook down to 7 HP, then the acid burns him down to 2 HP. The gnome swims out of the water and, on the verge of collapse, rushes up the steps, shifts out of lynx form, and saves Autumn as she is moments away from death, stabilizing her.

When all the Drogans are out of the room, Coltaine shuts the doors on the slime. But who could blame them for this disastrous battle? Apart from the message on the door, the ripples in the calm water, the giant blob of goo suddenly emerging and emitting an offensive stench as though to drive them away, there was absolutely no warning that something terrible was about to happen.
