The 12th July 1962 saw Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Ian Stewart take to the stage of the Marquee Club, Oxford Street, London, under the name the Rolling Stones. 50 years to the week of the "conception of the band", as Keith calls it, Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie reunited in London to mark this momentous occasion.
Mick and Keith went for a private view at the Rolling Stones: 50 photographic exhibition at London's Somerset House, Charlie and Ronnie took some time out at the Rolling Stones' office in south west London to look through the Rolling Stones: 50 book, published that week by Thames & Hudson, and the whole band had their portrait taken by world famous photographer Rankin, outside the doorway of the Marquee Club, the venue where rock 'n' roll history changed forever. The next day, the band arrive on the Somerset House red carpet to launch exhibition, mark their momentous anniversary together and celebrate at a party with their family and friends, including former Rolling Stones Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman.
Charlie Watts' first gig with the Rolling Stones was on 12th January 1963 at the Ealing Jazz Club, in west London, and he and Bill Wyman were made permanent members of the band on 23rd January, when the band played a gig at the Red Lion Pub in Sutton, Surrey. Following Mick Taylor's departure from the band in early 1975, Ronnie Wood played on the Black and Blue sessions in March of that year, and played his first ever show with the Rolling Stones on his 28th birthday, 1st June 1975. Ronnie officially became a Rolling Stone in 1976. less
