The First Wave of Black Metal was an ERA (not a genre) Which lasted from 1981 to 1991-ish that consisted of various Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, Doom Metal and Heavy Metal acts that influenced the sounds and ideas of the genre Black Metal and other future Extreme Metal Genres (Mostly Black Metal).

We all know the most important bands of the influence in Black Metal thought. Bathroy, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Venom, and Mercyful Fate.
