A popular ghazal singer in the mould of Mehdi Hassan, Chandan Dass was trained in classical music by Ustad Moosa Hussain Khan, Amanat Ali Khan and Fateh Ali Khan of which the knowledge of Fateh Ali Khan in ghazal helped Chandan a lot.
With the humble beginning of singing in hotels to earn a living, after he moved to Delhi which he felt was a better place for aspiring ghazal singers, luck struck him when his song reached the ears of ghazal singer Talat Aziz and introduced him to Polydor, the label he was working with. This sense of gratitude towards Talat Aziz is still felt by Mehdi Hassan who considers him as his mentor. After the release of his first album titled 'Introducing Chandan Dass' in 1982, he has released about 15 albums apart from singing in some films and TV serials. less
