Queen are an English rock band who formed in 1970. Originally consisting of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor, Queen are one of the most popular bands of all time. Known for their incredible live performances, fuelled by the charisma and showmanship of their front man Freddie Mercury, their performance at Live Aid in 1985 was voted the best live rock show of all time in an industry poll of 2005. Queen enjoyed their biggest success in the late 70s - it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack in 1974 and A Night At The Opera in 1975 that catapulted them into superstardom. Freddie Mercury's death in 1991 and John Deacon's subsequent retirement meant that Brian May and Roger Taylor only performed sporadically, and it was only the introduction of Paul Rodgers as a featured vocalist that meant Queen regularly performed again. less
