Building a 30-40 Pound PVC Bow Over a Fire -Snow Bow! (Youtube)

The weather was pretty nice today, so I figured it would be a good time to start a little fire and build a PVC bow. That and my wife told me I should show how to heat PVC over a fire because it has been frequently requested. These four videos go over the whole 45 minute process of actually getting the bow from pipe to shootable bow.

The bow we're building is a simple bow with formed siyahs. It is a quiet and smooth-shooting bow, roughly 30-40 pounds at a 28" draw (1" tapers can be unpredictable). My wife's calling it the Snow Bow as it's the first bow I've actually built outside while it's snowing. It's a quick little shooter, very stable at 50" nock to nock. The point of this build was to make a stable and quick bow that's accurate enough to be used for self-reliance with nothing but a fire and some basic tools.

The pipe started out at 52" long, the taper starts at 1" and goes down to about 5/16". The siyahs start at 8 inches in from each end, but really reach full height at about 6 inches. The arrow rests about 1.5" above center.

Once I finish the bow up we'll shoot it and get some speed results.

Thanks for watching and enjoy! less
