In 2009, AI has decided to focus the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence (25 November 10 December) on the theme of women, violence and poverty. We chose this focus in order to draw onto the momentum generated by the recent launch of the Demand Dignity Campaign and the follow up campaigning activities around key dates such as the UN Habitat Day (5 October) and the International Day for Eradication of Poverty (17 October). We also would like to convey the message that womens rights and womens active participation are crucial for the success of all campaigning efforts to eradicate poverty. less
